How can you identify stakeholders impacted by a BI problem?
A Business Intelligence problem is any organizational challenge that requires complex analysis to solve. Addressing a recent decline in customer retention involves more than just reading a chart. To solve BI problems, you must collect, analyze, and transform data, then interpret for actionable insights. When addressing a recent dip in retention you might: 1. Gather data on retention rates, churned accounts, and surveys. 2. Analyze to identify trends and potential causes. 3. Segment customers and identify affected groups. 4. Determine root causes (e.g., product issues, price changes). 5. Forecast retention. 6. Develop strategies (e.g., marketing campaigns, product improvements). 7. Implement, monitor results, and gather feedback.

How can you identify stakeholders impacted by a BI problem?
Identifying stakeholders can be a political process - don’t let it be. To identify effective stakeholders, follow these three rules: 1. Concentrate on the function of their role, not their title. Avoid assuming the VP or Exec is the most knowledgeable. Often, they are too distant from day-to-day processes to spot gaps. They may overlook discrepancies between data and processes. 2. Use a stakeholder survey with questions focused on their comprehension of the data and the process, not just reports. Prioritize familiarity with data quality, gaps, and data enrichment. 3. Don’t mistake being loud for being helpful. Speaking first and frequently doesn’t always lead to collaborative and thoughtful feedback loops.

How can you identify stakeholders impacted by a BI problem?
In my experience, stakeholders play a crucial role in the acceptance and adoption of insights related to Business Intelligence (BI). The effectiveness of Business Intelligence is contingent upon its contextualization. If stakeholders closely involved in processes and connected to the source data are absent, the narrative becomes unclear, weakening confidence and support of BI insights. Engaged stakeholders contribute to better, smarter, and more seamless decision-making processes. No one wants to have their budget adjusted or quota changed because of a model they can’t understand and don’t trust.
